SPADA Conference on Thursday 15 - Friday 16 Nov 2018

November 15th, 2018 09:00 - 16 Nov 17:00

Join us at this year's 26th annual SPADA Conference on Thursday 15-Friday 16 Nov 2018 when we'll be exploring THE POWER OF EMOTION.
Emotions infuse every aspect of our lives, and creating powerful and diverse stories puts emotions front and center. From the writer, to the director, to the producer, to the DOP, to the funders, to the actors, to the audience.... emotions are what drive us to take an idea from inception to the screen.

Over the coming months we'll be confirming speakers and details of the two-day programme, but until we have more news, here are some great talks and articles on the subject of storytelling, emotions, and working in the screen industry...

THE POWER OF FILM
Filmmaker Andrew Stanton ("Toy Story," "WALL-E") shares what he knows about storytelling -- starting at the end and working back to the beginning. Contains graphic language.

THE HISTORY OF HUMAN EMOTION
“The way we feel is also enmeshed in the expectations and ideas of the cultures in which we live.”
Dr Tiffany Watt-Smith - The Book of Human Emotions: An Encyclopedia of Feeling, from Anger to Wanderlust

THR: CINEMATOGRAPHERS ROUNDTABLE
Fascinating discussion with Roger Deakins, Matthew Libatique, Jeff Cronenweth, Dion Beebe, Benoit Delhomme and Dick Pope about their experiences over the years.

TRANSPARENT NORMALISES COMPLEX FEMALE EMOTIONS

THE UNDENIABLE EMOTIONAL IMPACT OF MUSIC IN FILM
While filmmaking and videography are primarily visual art forms, the importance of a gripping score can’t be overstated. Let’s look at how music heightens the impact of moving pictures.
