The international access code for New Zealand is 64.
Apart from telephone line rental charges, residential local calls in New Zealand are free, while business calls are charged. National and international toll calls are charged at different rates, depending on distance and time. Telephone accounts itemise toll calls, place and number called, time of phone call, duration of call and the amount charged.
Local calls from phone boxes cost $1 for the first minute, and 20 cents per minute thereafter. There is no time limit. Phone boxes use either cards, coins or credit cards. Phone cards can be bought at dairies, news agents and petrol stations in various denominations.
The are several providers of cellular services in New Zealand. The two main ones are Telecom (027) and Vodafone (021).
