Health & Safety
Health and safety in New Zealand workplaces is regulated by the Health & Safety in Employment Act 1992. The act promotes health and safety management in the workplace and focuses on the prevention of harm to employees at work.
Primary responsibility for health and safety is placed on the employer to provide an appropriate work environment.
Employers, employees and self-employed workers are also expected to ensure that their actions at work do not result in harm.
The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Service of the Department of Labour is responsible for administering the Health & Safety in Employment Act 1992.
Contact details for regional branches can be found in the Government (blue pages) phone listings in the front of all White Pages telephone directories.

Safety Code of Practice for the NZ Film & Video Production Industry
The Code of Practice was prepared by a project committee and reviewed by an Industry Safety Code of Practice Committee. It is complementary to the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and its regulations. It is not a substitute for the Act. It states that every person has a responsibility for safety in the workplace. The procedures contained in the Safety Code of Practice include practicable steps for principals, self-employed persons on contract, employers and employees to minimise harm to themselves and others. The procedures should be considered in conjunction with the existing New Zealand law - the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.

Resource Management Act 1991
The purpose of this act is to promote the sustainable management of natural and physical resources. The environmental impacts of activities - such as filming - are primarily controlled by the RMA through the requirement to apply for resource consents, as well as through any conditions for permitted activities included in the relevant regional or district plan.
The Ministry for the Environment is responsible for administering the RMA and ensuring that it is being implemented effectively.
